GIA Expands Fraud Detection Service to All Global Labs

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has broadened its recently launched verification service, the Report Confirmation Service, to include all its laboratories, IDEX Online reports.

Initially introduced last month in New York to counteract fraud involving lab grown gems being submitted as natural diamonds, the service  is now accessible at all GIA locations, available for both walk-in and courier submissions. The GIA promises a quick turnaround for loose diamonds, with a minimum processing time of just 15 minutes. For the initial period, no charges will be applied.

GIA president and CEO Susan Jacques commented: “Combatting this fraud is vital to protecting the public and ensuring their confidence in gems and jewelry – this is GIA’s mission.”
