Color Grabs Spotlight at Sotheby’s Auction

The top item at the February 3 Important Jewels sale in Hong Kong was a bracelet with 13 graduated step-cut Colombian emeralds weighing a total of 19.41 carats. The piece, which also contained 13 emerald-cut, D- to F-color, VVS1- to VS2-clarity diamonds weighing a combined 20.12 carats, brought in HKD 6.9 million ($875,335), within its estimate.

The other pieces rounding out the top 10 are:

  • An emerald and diamond parure by Boghossian comprising a pendant necklace with 13 heart-shaped Colombian emeralds and diamonds, a pair of pendant earrings, a bracelet, and a ring. The set sold for HKD 6.4 million ($810,495), within its presale range.
  • A cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut, 8.88-carat, faint-pink, internally flawless diamond ring, framed by brilliant-cut, pink-tinted diamonds fetched HKD 4.6 million ($583,556), within its estimate.
  • Sotheby’s sold an oval-shaped, 33.03-carat, fancy-yellow, VS2-clarity diamond ring for HKD 4.7 million ($599,766), near the top of its presale price.
  • An oval-shaped, 15.05-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, SI1-clarity diamond center stone, flanked by two shield-shaped diamonds, brought in HKD 3.3 million ($421,457), within its estimate.
  • Emerald-cut, 13.03-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, VS1-clarity diamond ring went for HKD 3.3 million ($421,457), in the middle of its price range.
  • A pear-shaped, 8.69-carat, D-color, internally flawless, type IIa diamond ring mounted by Harry Winston also sold for HKD 3.3 million ($421,457), within its estimate.
  • A pair of earrings bearing circular-cut Colombian emeralds weighing 13.72 and 13.48 carats, as well as kite- and lozenge-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds, brought in HKD 3 million ($389,038), surpassing its HKD 2.8 million ($357,384) high estimate.
  • A pair of earrings mounted by Harry Winston was also on offer. Each contained a cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut, fancy-intense-yellow diamond — one weighing 8.14 carats and the other 8.04 carats. Together they garnered HKD 2.9 million ($372,828), within their initial range.
  • A cushion-shaped, 5.29-carat sapphire ring by Bulgari is embellished with baguette and brilliant-cut diamonds. It sold for HKD 2.9 million ($372,828), in the middle of its presale estimate.
