Gem Diamonds has recovered a 125-carat rough from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho, its second stone over 100 carats this year.
The high-quality, white diamond was unearthed at the site on May 31, Gem Diamonds said Thursday. The discovery comes hot on the heels of a high-value, 129-carat rough the miner found the week before.
The recovery of the two stones follows a long period of sluggishness in the miner’s retrieval of diamonds over 100 carats. The company is known for its high-value goods.
Last year, Gem Diamonds unearthed six stones over 100 carats from Letšeng, compared to 16 in 2020.
