Formula 1 star Charles Leclerc has followed in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and Justin Bieber by proposing with a heavy oval-shaped diamond.
The Ferrari driver gifted fashion icon Alexandra Saint Mleux an engagement ring with a stone that media outlets have estimated at 5 to 6 carats.
“We’re estimating Alexandra’s ring to be a 5- to 6-carat natural oval diamond, valued around $525,000,” wrote Queensmith, a jeweler in London’s Hatton Garden, on Instagram.
Leclerc, who is from Monaco, and Saint Mleux, from Calais, France, announced the engagement on their Instagram pages on November 2, displaying images of themselves with the ring and their dog, a now-famous dachshund called Leo.
Long fancy shapes such as ovals have been in demand among celebrities and the general public, partly because the style makes them look big for their carat weight.
In August, Portuguese soccer player Ronaldo proposed to Georgina Rodriguez with an oval-shaped diamond estimated at 25 to 35 carats. In 2018, Justin Bieber popped the question to Hailey Baldwin (now Bieber) with an oval diamond thought to be between 6 and 10 carats.
