The Eden Rose, an internally flawless 10.20-carat fancy Intense Pink diamond, exceeded its high estimate by selling for $13.3 million on June 11 at Christie’s New York, IDEX Online reports. The final price equates to over $1.3 million per carat.
With a pre-sale estimate of $9 million to $12 million, the diamond was the highlight of Christie’s New York Magnificent Jewels auction. The round brilliant diamond is set in an 18-karat white gold ring with 18-karat rose gold prongs, and features a halo of pear and marquise-cut diamonds weighing between 0.73 and 3.11 carats.
The Type IIa diamond is notable for its pure pink color, free from any secondary hues, unlike many other pink diamonds that often show shades of purple, orange, or gray. Christie’s described the Eden Rose as the most significant pink diamond they have offered since the 12.04-carat Martian Pink, which sold in 2012 for $17.4 million ($1.45 million per carat).
The New York Magnificent Jewels auction totaled $44.4 million, with 90% of the 144 lots sold.
